Rochester News, Marina Project Kicks Off:  The city of Rochester has started construction of a new marina as part of a plan to revitalize the city's Lake Ontario waterfront.  Rochester’s Mayor Tom Richards was joined by state, federal and community officials for last Thursday's groundbreaking ceremony for the Port of Rochester Marina project.

The $16.5 million marina located on the west side of the Genesee River just south of Lake Ontario in Rochester's Charlotte neighborhood is expected to open in 2015.  The first phase of the work includes the construction of a deep-draft marina basin that can accommodate 85 boat slips located immediately west of the Port of Rochester Ferry Terminal Building. The Marina will be built to accommodate a potential expansion to 157 boat slips. New broadside slips will also be added to the terminal dock wall on the river. The Marina’s entrance to the river will be located just north of the City’s public boat launch, which will also be improved. Plans call for keeping at least 30 of the new slips open for transient dockage.  Other plans for the city's port include future construction of a mix of residential units as well as retail and commercial projects. Rochester Marina ProjectRochester Marina Project
